Veteran guard Dennis Schröder has signed a three-year, $45 million contract with the Sacramento Kings, marking another significant move in his dynamic NBA career. This acquisition adds depth to a Kings team looking to strengthen its roster, particularly at the point guard position.

Schröder, originally drafted 17th overall by the Atlanta Hawks in 2013, has experienced a rollercoaster journey throughout his 13-season career, playing for multiple franchises. His recent stint saw him split the 2024-2025 season across three teams, showcasing his adaptability and resilience in the face of frequent changes.

Starting the season with the Brooklyn Nets, Schröder made an impressive impact, averaging over 18 points and 6 assists per game in his initial 23 starts. However, after a mid-season trade to the Golden State Warriors, his performance took a dip, resulting in lower averages during his time there. He was subsequently involved in a complex multi-team trade that saw him land with the Detroit Pistons, where he found renewed purpose. In Detroit, he played a pivotal role as a veteran presence, helping the team secure a playoff spot for the first time since 2019.

Throughout his career, Schröder has played for the Atlanta Hawks, Oklahoma City Thunder, Los Angeles Lakers, Boston Celtics, Houston Rockets, Toronto Raptors, Brooklyn Nets, Golden State Warriors, and Detroit Pistons. His journey through the league has not only been marked by his on-court contributions but also by candid reflections on the nature of trades and player movement in the NBA.

As he joins the Kings, Schröder will be part of a young roster looking to make strides in the competitive Western Conference. With only one other point guard on the roster, 23-year-old Devin Carter, who had limited playing time as a rookie, Schröder’s experience will be invaluable as the Kings aim to return to playoff contention.

The Sacramento Kings finished with a 40-42 record in the previous season, narrowly missing the playoffs. With Schröder’s addition, the team hopes to enhance its performance and foster growth among its younger players in pursuit of a more successful future.
